Pelham regional councillor Brian Baty, in his regular report to Pelham town council Monday, stressed regional council support for increased transit services.

By an 18-5 vote, the region supported enhancing an inter-municipal transit pilot project, he said.

It could mean the use of more buses, probably smaller, to link local-run transit services in Welland, Niagara Falls and St. Catharines and to reach out into other municipalities.

It may be an opportunity for Pelham to get involved, Baty said.

He said there is also a proposal by the Trillium Railway to run a passenger train along its line from Port Colborne through Welland to St. Catharines.

With Niagara Region supporting improved GO Train service to the region, the Trillium plan could tie in with the PanAm Games next year.
