It’s a familiar name in a new location, boasting the same great quality of wine bottling.

The Wine Garden of Pelham last May came under new management as Ryan Wolcott and Ashley Pieters began a new chapter in their lives as wine connoisseurs.

“We were looking for something new and exciting to do,” Wolcott said at the official grand opening at 170 Hwy 20 W. last week.

“When we found out Ron and Donna (Kozub) were selling their business, we thought it would be the perfect fit as my father had been bottling with them for a number of years.”

Kozub ran the business for 18 years before retiring last year. That void was quickly filled with Wolcott taking over the successful wine making business.

Wolcott says despite the retirement label, Kozub has been a huge part of the transition in management. With the move into a new building, the requests for bottling haven’t stopped which has kept the couple on their toes.

“They’ve supported us the entire way with the move so it’s been really helpful. I’ve never done anything like this before so I’ve become student in the art of wine.”

While the Wine Garden of Pelham has kept many of the aspects of the business the same, the new location on the hill is a short drive from the previous store at Hwy 20 and Rice Rd.

Their store in a new plaza along Regional Rd. 20 west of Haist St., has been transformed into a state-of-the-art bottling facility.

The move, which took around five months to complete, allows for more space for bottling. The downfall of the delay, however, has been the customers waiting for their doors to open.

Wolcott and Pieters have had a non-stop flow of wine going as orders upon orders have come through the door since they opened.

“All aspects of the business are new to the two of us so it makes every day special. We continue to learn and fall in love with the business more and more each day.”

The overall business offers a wide-variety of wine kits that contain 10-18L of 100 per cent pure varietal grape juice and concentrate that are ready to be bottled in

6-8 weeks. With over 150 different varieties of wine, the pair believes if it’s not broke, don’t fix it.

“We’re lucky to live in a region where wine bottlers are so passionate,” Wolcott said. “The support from everyone in this new adventure has been overwhelming, so we’d just like to thank everyone for helping out.”
