On Halloween night, students from E.L. Crossley’s Interact Club will be trick or treating in Pelham neighbourhoods asking for canned goods and non-perishable food items.
The “We Scare Hunger” event will be happening throughout cities in Canada as it is put on by Free the Children to boost food bank donations.
Hunger affects people from all walks of life. They are your neighbours, the people you pass on the street or even friends. Most people never expect to have to go to a food bank. But when faced with unemployment, poverty or family crisis, many find themselves having to turn to their community food bank to feed their family. Some people need support over longer periods, but most require help only occasionally or for a short period of time. A food package may make the difference for a family trying to get back on their feet after a crisis. It can mean that a child doesn’t go to bed hungry. It’s time to be heroes and stop hunger in its tracks.
All items collected by Crossley students will be donated to Pelham Cares. Currently, the biggest needs at the food bank are the basic breakfast items and personal items such as tooth brushes, deodorant and shampoo.
So when you see teenagers at your door, be generous and help them to “Scare Hunger” by donating generously.
You may also drop donations off at the Pelham Cares building located along Hwy. 20.
