Fourteen students received thanks and copies of the town’s official Christmas card they helped to create.

Council gave the students certificates and 10 copies each of the card with their art work.

The students – Natalie Anderson, Adrianna Bonazza, Tess Capra, Zander Dedivitiis, David John Gillies, Henry Knafelc, Bethany Langelaan, Simona Muia, Ella Nauta, Monica Pastore, Lola Prevost, Grace Sodtke, Ellah Thompson, and Julia Tremeer – entered a town sponsored contest to design a card.

Mayor Dave Augustyn congratulated the students during Monday’s town council meeting.

He explained that the cards are used by the town to send seasonal greetings to clients, residents and other governments including the Ontario premier and the Canadian prime minister.

Two years ago, one was sent to the then Ontario Lieutenant Governor David Onley inviting him to visit the town’s new accessible playground, the mayor said.

The following spring, he took the town up on its invitation and visited the Centennial Park playground, said the mayor.

Students from local schools submitted drawings to the contest and a committee selected the winners.
