Fourth time became a charm for the town’s lifeguards.
This year they won first place for a two-minute water safety video, Swimming with a Buddy.
Barbara Byers, public education director with the Lifesaving Society of Ontario, said in a letter the judging panel was impressed with the clarity of the message and the effort “put in to making an accurate and compelling submission.”
They won in the annual lifesaving short video category.
Lifeguards Taylor Wallace, Chantal Christian and Ali Goossen told town council Monday they submitted videos over the past four years finishing second or third.
They played the video, which stresses the need to be accompanied when swimming. It cites statistics on risks of drowning. It is the third highest cause of deaths among children.
From the Lifesaving Society, the lifeguards receive a $100 gift certificate for pizza party and a certificate of appreciation from the town.
In addition to the three at Monday’s council meeting other members of the winning crew are: Paul Ferrara, Christopher Russell, Jacob Bosnich, Katie Lewis, Maggie Sainty, Connor Pepper, Alex Rietveld, Chris Giguere, and Andrew Hrycusko. They were away attending school Monday.
The award-winning video can be viewed on the town’s website  www.pelham.ca under the Pelham Community Pool section.
