Niagara Peninsula Energy is encouraging municipalities to switch to light-emitting diode lighting.
NPE, which provides electricity to Fonthill, is wrapping up its conservation and demand program.
It offers assistance to municipalities who want to convert from standard sodium street lighting to LED lighting.
In a letter to council, it urged contacting NPE if Pelham plans to change lighting in 2015.
Pelham’s public works department will review the request.
The company said it is now working with Niagara Falls to convert to covert to LED lighting which it said reduces operational and maintenance costs and provides energy saving of 70%.
Niagara Region recently put LED lights over new crosswalks on Pelham Street. Welland has changed all its street lights to LED.
