Fonthill and District Kinettes offer a Valentine treat for women to help women.
Pamper Me Sweet, on Saturday, Feb. 7, is a spa day with up to 30 vendors to raise money for the Women’s Place of South Niagara, the local women’s shelter.
“Unlike pre-Christmas craft sales, where you shop for others, Pamper Me Sweet is a day to shop for yourself,” said Kinette Lola Bronn.
Admission is free for a day of $10 professional services including pedicure, massage, waxing, reflexology, reiki and Indian head massage.
It runs from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Fonthill United Church on top of Church Hill at Regional Road 20.
For the recently chartered 15-member Kinette club, this is its first major fundraising project. If it works out well, Pamper me Sweet could become an annual event.
The club, which welcomes new members, took on a job of diplomatically directing parking during last summer’s Thursday evening bandshell concert and market events in Fonthill.
Kinette Betty Twomey said Pamper Me Sweet is its first major project and is coming together quickly.
“Once word got out, we’ve had a tremendous response,” she said. “We are not always aware of how many people in the area are making things.”
Vendors lined up so far are selling purses, oils, steeped teas, nails, scents, bed sheets, epicure, scrapbooking, cosmetics, kitchen items, mascara, jewellery, popcorn, burlap wreaths, fudge, jams, jellies, chocolate, and leggings.
The Kinettes expect to have 25 to 30 vendors in Fonthill United Church’s main hall and lining its hallways.
Pamper Me Sweet will include a penny sale and raffle as well as a used book sale. Those wishing to donate books can call Dinah at 905-735-2993
A fitness centre will offer stress measurements while a tea room will include leaf readers and numerology.
“We want to make it a fun day,” said Twomey.
Bronn, who has gone to similar events before, said it is a great way to relax “and pamper yourself.”
Music students from E.L. Crossley Secondary School and Notre Dame College School will provide entertainment.
Proceeds will go to Women’s Place of South Niagara.
“It seemed appropriate for our event and the service does not have as high a profile as others,” said Twomey.
Women’s Place of South Niagara, based in Welland, serves women in Pelham with shelter and counselling.
