Emily Danecker is a student from E. L. Crossley Secondary School.  She recently did a morning co-op placement at the Niagara Health System Welland Hospital Site.  Here are some of her reflections on her experience. Throughout my high school career I have taken courses such as biology, chemistry and medical science, however it is much different than being out in the real world, things happen at a much quicker pace with no time for hesitation or self-doubt.   Since the start of my co-op placement the staff has been warm and welcoming, offering advice and answering my many questions.  I have learned to work as a part of their team, using organization, efficiency and co-operative skills.  Although the majority of skills that I use every day at the placement are people skills, and while I am typically a shy rather quiet person I have recently learned how to be more outgoing and conversational.  These skills are essential for most jobs and will allow me to interact with future employers much more easily.  Over the last two months I have learned to take pride in my work by understanding that practice makes perfect.  I’d like to thank all the staffat the Niagara Health System for taking the time to allow me to have this wonderful learning experience.  I would also like to thank Mrs. McCollum for taking the time to interview and train me before my co-op placement began. Co-operative Education is a planned learning experience where students earn credits towards their O.S.S.D.  If you are interested in finding out more about the program please visit the E. L. Crossley webpage for contact information.
