The Niagara Community Foundation has landed a big prize for their 23rd annual Canada Goat Open golf tournament this year in the form of an all-inclusive trip for two to Island 10, a fishing resort located about an hour and a half North of North Bay.Island 10 is owned and operated by Ken and Beverly Byberg, who operate the resort during the summer months and run the businesses office out of their home in Ridgeville during the off season. Nestled into the islands of Lady Evelyn Lake, the isolated, boat-in only resort sees clients from all over Canada and theUnited States, and is renowned for its excellent fishing and remote location. The Bybergs are no strangers to charitable giving, having recently donated a 1974 Piper Seneca twin-engine airplane to the North Bay Canadore College School of Aviation, and are excited to be teaming up with the Niagara Community Foundation with their latest contribution.  “Bev and I have given to a number of charities over the years, some of them ongoing, and we were initially looking to set up our own foundation,” Said Ken. “But there are a number of problems in doing so, mainly the large overhead costs that eat up the funds.” After doing some research, the couple discovered that there were many community foundations already set up that they could contribute to, without losing a large portion to administration fees. “So we got in touch with the Niagara Community Foundation in regards to gifts we want to leave in perpetuity when we’re gone, but at the same time we like to continue giving, and so we’ve been donated these trips to worthy causes nearly every year,” said Ken.The Island 10 trips are a popular item when they are available. “It’s an amazing item!” said the Niagara Community Foundation’s Liz Palmieri. All the proceeds from the golf tournament are used to support thefoundation’s granting programs for charities across Niagara.  In previous years the foundation has supported school greening programs in Fonthill, equipment for food banks in Welland, as well as large print books at local libraries.
