The course preparation has begun, and more than 150 people have already signed up to participate in the upcoming Pelham Mudfest Challenge, set for Sat., May 23.Demanding enough to make you grit your teeth, but with sufficient fun to leave you wanting more, the Pelham Mudfest Challenge is a six-kilometre obstacle course through the rolling hills of Bissell’s Hideaway Resort, off Metler Road in Ridgeville.“We listened to the feedback from our 2014 events, so we’ve got even more fun obstacles in store as a result,” says Frank Adamson, event chairman. “For those who want to push the limits of their performance, we have introduced an elite category this year, with official timers for individuals – but don’t worry, we still have the fun run for teams as well.”Natural and constructed obstacles, including a hydro pole wall, haystacks, slides, climbing structures and tire obstacles, are combined for teammates to race over, under, through and around. Team efforts are not only allowed, they are encouraged for the fun run, Adamson notes,so anyone in general physical shape can participate. The course has been lengthened from the original 2014 event, which was 5 km, and the age limit is once again 15 years old.In the end participants will be rewarded with a warm shower, a variety of lunch options, entertainment and prizes. The entry fee of $75 also includes a T-shirt and drink. All proceeds for the 2015 event will go to Wellspring Niagara, a cancer support centre which recently announced it is building a new regional centre in Pelham, as well as End Polio Now, a concerted effort by Rotary International to eradicate polio from the world.Spectators are welcome, and they will be asked for a monetary donation to the fundraising effort.Members of the Rotary Club of Fonthill are putting together the final details for the event, and are seeking both sponsors for the obstacles to help offset the up-front costs, and volunteers who would like to help out for a few hours during the day.For more information, including a FAQ section and registration link, visit www.pelhammudfest.ca.Volunteers can sign up online by sending email to info@pelham  mudfest.caThose interested in sponsorship opportunities can contact Adamson at 905-892-0200
