Neighbor Henry Nieuwold heard the commotion and rushed to his front window. He knew something was amiss when he spotted car parts in his front yard.

“It was about 3:30 in the morning, when a big crash woke me up,” he said. “I came to the window and I saw a tire in my front yard. So I got dressed and came outside, and as soon as I stepped out, somebody was in my yard and started to run away. So I went after him, and we ran up Church Street, and I brought him back. And that’s when I noticed what had happened.”

The car had failed to navigate the curve in the road at the Church Street intersection and continued instead across several lawns. The vehicle was going fast enough that the impact with the curb broke one of the tires free.

“He lost the tire off his car and hit the side of my escape, and then he travelled on,” said Nieuwold. “The tire hit my car and he carried on without it and totalled my wife’s car, then continued on through and jumped the bricks and landed in the neighbor’s porch.”

The homeowners were out of town at the time, and no one was hurt in the crash.
