Niagara Regional Councillor David Barrick's motion to increase scrutiny of the Town of Pelham's finances has been deferred by approximately two and a half months.

In their scheduled meeting in St. Catharines this evening, Regional Council rearranged its agenda to push forward Barrick's motion.  Barrick read it into the record and made brief supporting remarks.  Councillor Tony Quirk offered his support of the motion and expressed concerns generally about Pelham's financial circumstances.  In reference to a 330-page document prepared by Pelham Mayor David Augustyn in response to Barrick's motion, delivered to Council members in hardcopy just previous to tonight's meeting, Quirk remarked, "Sometimes in a lawsuit when you want to hide something you do a data dump."

Councillor Selina Volpatti moved that the entire matter—motion and all related correspondence—be deferred until Council's June Audit Committee meeting. This meeting is scheduled for 9:30AM, Monday, June 12.

The motion passed 16-12.
