Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority watershed conditions statement

This notice is intended to update the public and local municipalities of the status of the watercourse conditions within the Niagara Peninsula and the eastern portions of the City of Hamilton and Haldimand County.
The Niagara Peninsula and portions of Hamilton and Haldimand are forecasted to receive between 35 and 55mm of precipitation from Wednesday night through Friday. The most recent rain events have resulted in higher than normal water levels and flows within our watercourses. At present, water levels within these watercourses are elevated but remain below critical thresholds. The Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority does not expect any major flooding at this time. However, residents living along the upper portions of the Welland River and 20 Mile Creek in the Wellandport and Smithville areas are encouraged to closely monitor river conditions. Water levels will remain elevated through the weekend. The NPCA will continue to monitor stream and weather conditions closely and will issue further messages as required.
Residents are urged to keep themselves, children and pets well away from streams and creeks as these watercourses may be hazardous. Drivers are reminded there is an increased risk of water over roads and should not drive through any flooded roadway, being particularly careful at night. Local municipalities are advised to check for debris clogging culverts, catch basins, and other storm infrastructure.
