The Fenwick EarlyOn site in Fenwick is remaining open from Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 12 PM, until the Niagara Region completes its procurement process, announced Adrian McKenzie, Senior Manager of Programs for Family and Children’s Services (FACS) last Friday.
The community held a rally Monday morning to keep the site open, with politicians including Ward 1 Councillor Mike Ciolfi and Regional Councillor Diana Huson, FACS officials, and children in attendance. For the children, it was playtime as usual, pretending they were snowflakes, building snowmen, and learning to play together under the entertaining direction of Youth Worker Bonnie Krause.
Paul Bryant, an EarlyOn supporter, has taken his grandchildren there for years, he said, adding that it’s a wonderful site because children can do multiple activities simultaneously, as there is a large room indoors, outdoor playground, and staff rooms at the Fenwick United Church location. During playtime, local resident Cory Ziraldo (pictured above) gave a presentation to politicians and dignitaries on the statistics and logistics of rural versus urban childcare services, which is why parents say this site is important, and why it should remain a part of the community.
